Yeah, that's essentially what I meant by custom code. In my particular situation, it just wasn't worth the effort. The stored procedures gave use the ability to use MM business objects and Reporting Services together. Granted, the business objects aren't directly utilized but it was good enough at the time. Now, if this feature isn't implemented in the next release of Reporting Services, I think I'll probably wind up going back and extending it.
