An excellent book, especially considering that Date and Codd are considered the fathers of relational databases.

HOWEVER - IMO, if you read this book cover to cover, you can sit in on ANY database system and write code, after wrapping your head around any particular syntactical differences between ansi sql and 'the thing [in this case, T-SQL].
