Using a C++ or Delphi EXE would allow you to create an intelligent workstation configuration without running the VFP setup. Overkill for a small company, but rather helpful to the overworked network administrator in many medium sized companies. You put a new workstation in production with the EXE configuration program in the Startup, and you could let it take care of all the tedious installs to the client as well as future upgrades from a server.

It really depends on business environment. I mean that from my standpoint, as a software person, is more reliable to stay within VFP setup. I create network setup packages and also place stand-alone exe on network, and my executables installed locally carry built-in version control prompting to copy (automatically) new version from network.
