Kevin -

A very insightful and constructive post. ( probably should be reposted under another heading as this thread has degenerated to the point it may be lost to many who might benefit from it )

As I tinker with .NET, preparing to transition to production work with Whidbey, I am constantly amazed at the size of the .NET developer community and the number of resources available for developers. You sited many of the good ones. I am excited by DotNetNuke as a portal and have been very impressed by technical authors such as Jesse Liberty and Andrew Troelsen. Their work, as well as the application driven tutorials in the Deitel series (Prentice Hall) represent the best technical writing I've experienced.

As a big fan of leveraging other people's expertise for my own profit < g >, I own Kevin's MM .net framework and I am probably going to buy the Iron Speed Designer RAD tool very soon. (www.ironspeed.com) This looks like a lot of bang for the buck and will come in very handy if an existing client says they want an ASP .NET app in place *tomorrow* < bg > I learned early in Foxpro that by buying the right tools and learning to use them I could focus on the things that were client-centric ( and generated the most revenue for time spent ). With the multiplicity of 3rd party tools available this seems even more the case in .NET .

I look forward to seeing your web site. Will there be an easy way to know when it is up ( i.e. a URL that would be worth checking periodically ) ?

( I suppose at this point I should insert the mandatory disclaimer that I drank the Foxpro Kool-aid in Perrysburg days, have made lots of money with the Fox and continue to do so and have an little Foxhead tattooo on my ... oh, never mind. )

Thanks

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
