Hi Jess,

I don't remember posting anything about jobs in that message but I have my own personal opinion on it. Americans look at the job market and indeed our economy differently than foreigners that come here to work. First, we expect more by nature than foreigners that come here do - it is a different way of thinking. Many of those that come here for jobs are the same, it is precisely because they are not willing to settle that they leave their home country to come work in the U.S. We are not willing to settle unless we have no choice. Most foreigners come here because the job market is not good in their own country or the economy is worse or for political reasons so they are comparing apples to oranges. One of the reasons the U.S. is so prosperous is because we do not settle. That is why we work conditions are subject to labour laws and companies provide medical benefits, etc. We constantly try to make things better. If all Americans were willing to settle there would either be no 'United States of America' as a constitutional republic and if there was, it would not be what it is today.

I would also question your friend on specifics. For instance what benefits does she get in her current job? What is her salary? Is it a competitive position? What does 'not so choosy about the job' mean? In what way did she have to settle? What are her qualifications and what type of position did she get?

I have to also separate this from specifically VFP jobs. I have my own opinion on that. I am a firm believer that each individual should attempt to stay up-to-date with technology and stay competitive and that sometimes means using other tools or training yourself on other tools if necessary. It may be a long hard process, but it is necessary unless you are fortunate. When I refer to the job market I refer to the industry as a whole and not specifically VFP jobs.

Thanks,
Tracy

>>Hi Kevin,

>>Personally, I disagree with so many of your points that I am not going to post a message on every one. However, your statement below forces me to bring up one point that has nothing to do with my political views but everything to do with our government.

>>>but meanwhile we have other needs, desperate needs, that are not being met. We don't even have health care for all our children. We can't even provide breakfast for all our children, or books, or decent schools.
>>
>>That is the role of a socialist country and not a constitutional republic. Perhaps rather than complain that our government is not behaving as a socialist government (which it is not) you should start actions to change the government to make it so (looks like California is doing just that slowly and methodically). Of course that goes against the intentions of our forefathers...

>Why are so americans are keep on complaining about jobs? Most of our fellow filipinos going there are doing Ok. I just spoke to one my friend - who is currently working their, just last week, she is saying if someone is competitive enough and not so choosy about the job, then you will be fine living there inspite of economic slump.
