[haven't tried version 1.0]
since this implies further versions, how about implementing a simple ascii protocol of relevant program executing times ?
You could also add gathering basic info about the machine, and probably most of the people trying the app would send or publish this protocol.
If asked nicely to differentiate first start of the app with later starts, you/we could get not only personal opinion and estimated times
but performance data across different machines from the people trying the app <g>.
