Hi Terry,

No worries! The misunderstanding is probably more a result of my miscommunicating rather than your misinterpretation.

What I have is a case of data exchange. My organization receives and processes the data for its clients. When requested, we hand off the data files so that the client can do what they wish with their information. The process is 99% painless and straight forward as we usually deliver in either TXT, CSV, SDF, XLS or sometimes DBF. The fields from the tables in all cases except this one are either Char, Num, Date or some combination thereof. So COPY TO type ... fits the bill very nicely.

As mentioned, in this one case, the requirement includes the transfer of information stored in a MEMO field. Since none of the above COPY TO methods address this, I reached out to the community for a quick solution. Since we do not write applications for the client base, I am seeking a way to create a XLS file that includes the data from the MEMO field within the table so that I can pass it off to the user.

So, it's a question of how I can best get the data out of the MEMO field and into a character field or fields for deliver to the end user. I recognize the limitations of the character fields in both VFP and Excel(which is why we used a memo field in the first place), and therefore realize that I may have to house the converted data in more than one character field. This was also suggested by Borislav. I received Cetin's advice just this morning and will investigate it as well.

Thanks for your offer of assistance. I will keep it in mind.

Vince
