Hi Tracy:

It is true that it is hard to get a job in Canada unless you are declared as a landed immigrant and you are going through the citizenship process. We do have Jamaicans who come up here to pick apples without the intent of becoming citizens but they can only work at jobs that they can't get Canadians to do. I think you have the same problem with grapes in California.

Actually it is becoming harder to make a living growing mariwana in your house or warehouses because they can now go over buildings now and pick up some sort of signal from the extra electricity that is beng consumed. This was contested as an invasion of privacy but the judges ruled that it was't so mariwana growing is not very profitable any more.

Its true that you don't get free health care unless you are a citizen. Our Health Care isn't that hot though, the line ups are getting pretty long and we do have wealthy Canadians going to the US for private health care where they can get it immediately. It is much wiser to not smoke and eat healthy because if you get heart or lung problems you may not get the treatment until it is too late. We have rules in most of our cities whereby you can't smoke in office buildings, public places including restaurants and bars. You are pretty much limited to smoking outside, in your car or in your home. And I am all for this. If we could do something about obesity I would be for that too but so far we haven't found ways of forcing people to exercise more or eat less.
