>Actually Islamic fundamentalists usually stick to their own country. I don't think that Osama Bin Laden is an Islamic fundamentalist. I don't think he wants to convert America to the Muslim faith. I have stated elsewhere in this thread what bugs Osama.

There is some debate (mostly on the part of Saudi sponsored websites) as to whether or not Bin Laden is a Wahhabi ( the Wahhabi's who don't want bad PR in the West promote the idea he is a Sufi - though the Sufi's I know would find that strange. Some claim that Bin Laden and lots of the Taliban were followers of Deobandi Islam - a Sufi puritan movement. )

But I don't think any serious scholar would say UBL was not a fundamentalist - the discussion is only what kind.

As to 'stick to their own country' the whole concept of the ulema denies 'country' as a valid entity. The community of believers is universal and transcends all nation identity.

I don't think Bin Laden's goal is Shar 'ia in the US, but he definitely has a goal the defeat of any Islamic society which has deviated in any way from his version of Islamic truth. Turkey as a society and the governments of Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia are perfect examples of everything he hates.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
