>>No no no - creationism teaches a lie - a controvention of the laws of physics. The purpose of teaching creationism is not to provide a basis for understanding. The purpose of teaching creations is to soften you up so that you will be open to the next lie.

>>Teaching creationism is like saying 2 + 2 is 3. Classic Orwellian technique. And I am not trying to be an elitess snob. You have eyes, you are a geek and you should be a parent before you are a savant of preacher or prophet that may, after much pain, proove to be false. Question your religious elders as you zealously question me - and we will all be safer!

>I think you're rambling on this one, but how do you know that they don't question their religious elders? It's not black and white. In fact, there are many highly regarding scientist who do not rule out creationism.

>>It's a classic Orwellian technique hand has nothing to do with philosophy. You need to study Georger Orwell (1984) and Machiavelle. Everytime I see a bikini clad girls in a beer commercial - I watch that commercial - but I don;t drink beer!

>Are you implying that anyone who follows religious teachings is an idiot?

>>Some people see Dubya - and think god is working through him - by all measure of Christianity - that is heresy - that ius abominable - if you thing a "man" is spoken to by god - then you need to study your bible and quit listening to the preacher or the principal at your private, taxempt religious school.

>You have put me in the fringe. I am very much mainstream and never thought that Bush's actions were defined by his god.

Though I don't practice any religion, I do belive in God and think that creationism, science and evolution do not have to be strictly opposing concepts. I don't believe in any strict fundamentalist interpretation of the bible as many religious fanatics do. The bible was not written by God, it was written by man to attempt to explain things and help teach a sense of right and wrong in people. It was written in ancient times, describing ancient concepts and customs, and as been translated many times over to suit the ideology and needs of those who translated it. While there is much wisdom in the bible, it cannot be taken as straight from Gods mouth to your ears exactly in the words written, and fanatical people and evangelists can interpret some pretty bizarre things that I don't believe are the intentions of the specific passages quoted. Too many people thoughout history have used their twisted interpretation only to further their own specific agenda and could always find people to believe and follow them. Can you say false prophets?

The bible says in the beginning God created heaven and earth. Not too hard to believe that God had a hand in all of it if you look at the truly amazing things in nature. It also says that God did all this in 6 days. Who can say that God's "days" are 24 hours and not millions of our years and that evolution was not God's way of creating all the wonderous things in our world. It says that God looked around and was pleased and on the seventh day he rested. Maybe God is still resting and when he looks again, he may not be so pleased with what he sees.

Perhaps my beliefs and interpretation of biblical references would be considered blasphemous to those who believe a more fundamental interpretation of the bible. I can accept that others don't share my views and that is OK. I think that tolerance is a virtue. It is a real shame that so many others do not.
