Terry;

Over here in the Colonies they say that the British do not have a sense of humor. I find that hard to believe but then I do have an English name!

One particular incident towards the end of the Revolutionary War strikes me as very humorous! Word was that General Washington was about to march on Manhattan, and so the commanding Admiral ordered the Union Jack to fly high and the flagpole to be greased. As the last of the British ships left the Colonies you could still see the Union Jack flying high.

One historian stated that the War of 1812 between the Colonies or United States as we wish to call them, was due to this incident. You see, the British left with their flag flying high over Manhattan. The British returned to what was considered to be just another British possession. :)
