My company is now in the process of "Outsourcing" (as distinguished from "Offshoring") but with a different twist.

They are keeping the developers and outsourcing the legacy/maintenance functions. As a legacy system programmer I obviously have lots of reasons to disagree with this option but at least the new enterprise systems will have all the requisite business knowledge. Of course, that leaves a couple of years (at least) of < ahem > less than optimal support of what is actually running your business!!!
>But some IT manager buyers just can't resist the lure of corporate marketing offered by offshore system house. It says a lot about the state of affairs in IT departments. It would seem IT managers lack the compitence and confidence to assure they will deliver a project and will do anything to duck their responsibility!
