Try changing the registry key below to 1 (from the original value of 15):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WOW\LPT_Timeout
it should speed up the printing at least. The darkness is another issue. Do you see the dark printing when printing from windows on the same pc to the same printer?
