Interesting...I do have WINS settings for the internal wireless card, but the PCMCIA network card only has and "Alternate Configuration" tab and no "Advanced" button. The properties for the PCMCIA card is where I looked when I answered previously. IAC, the wireless card does have the "Enable LMHOSTS lookup" checked. FWIW, I tried this both with my internal wireless connection and the PCMCIA hard-wired connection, and there was no difference in behavior.

Sorry, I thought that was clear. When my broadband is connected, I can get to a local site on my machine using 127.0.0.1, but not using localhost. Both work fine with no broadband connection.

Oh man, did you ask for it! You sure you really want to hear all this? ;-)

I typically work from 2 locations, home and office, both with different types of broadband connections. At the office, I use SBC DSL and a Linksys router with combined wired/wireless access. At home I use Cox Cablemodem through a Linksys router with wired access only. I see the same behavior in both places.

This machine has 3 network cards: 1 internal wireless, 1 internal ethernet, 1 PCMCIA ethernet card.

I only use TCP/IP with the internal wireless and the external wired. The internal wired card uses NetBEUI, which I use for my in-house network at my office.

Of the cards using TCP/IP, the wireless has an assigned IP address and the wired card uses DHCP.

There are a number of other protocols installed:
Client for Microsoft Networks
Virtual Machine network services
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft networks
Microsoft TCP/IP version 6
AEGIS Protocol (IEEE 802.1x) v2.2.1.0
WLAN transport

Of these, the wireless card is using all but File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks and the NetBEUI protocol. The wired card which uses TCP/IP only using Client for Microsoft Networks in addition to regular TCP/IP. The wired card that uses NetBEUI also uses Client for Microsoft Networks and Virtual Machine network services.

I do not allow internet sharing through any of the cards.
