>By definition, even the most accepted/acceptable Theory can be disproven at any moment.

Correct. Until a new Theory, independently proven and arrived at, that better fits the data and makes better testable predictions comes along.

>For example, the Theory of Relativity smashed Newton's Law of Gravitation that had been fully consistent and useful for quite a while, even though it was wrong.

It was useful then and it is not wrong now. It is still very valid and explains everything beautifully in everyday life. The glitch is that when you start moving at something approaching relativistic speeds, things break down and then it does not wok as gracefully anymore. Einstein's theories cover that. Both Einstein's and Newton's have validity and can coexist. But you proably already know all of this.

>Perhaps that is what people mean when they observe that something is "only" a theory? Consistent/accepted today, discredited tomorrow?

Not exactly. Most people, as I said, have no idea what Scientific Theory is (or for that matter much about the scientific method and skepticism in general (sorry, scepticism for you? <g>)

"Once again, we come to the Holiday Season, a deeply religious time that each of us observes, in his own way, by going to the mall of his choice." -- Dave Barry
