>Rather a personal question, and I'll understand if you don't want to reply,

No problem, I don't mind at all.

>... I read an article once that stated that Keith Reid's father was arrested during Kristallnacht in Vienna when many were sent to Dachau (I visited Dachau in 1984 and will never forget it) but was able to flee to England with his brother.

AFAIK he managed to get leave from the Austrian Army due to an arranged marriage that his parents had set-up with my grandmother's parents, who lived in England at the time. They hadn't even met before the marriage! Unfortunately this arrangement happened after he had suffered torture at the hands of the Nazis.

>Is your father's name Michael?

It is!

Another bit of wartime trivia...
My grandfather's original surname was Wreiter, but as soon as he moved to England he changed it because it was too embarrassing/insensitive/unacceptable to have a german-sounding surname when living in England at that time (even though he was Austrian). Apparently he chose 'Reid' at random from the telephone directory, although I'm not sure how much of this is folklore.

Out of interest, where did you see this article?

Regards,
Alan
