I cannot see why an X would spend their life doing Y, then suddenly realize Z.

Why wouldn't an X prefer Z to Y?
>
>Why are you asking me?
Because it was you who expressed surprise at an X suddenly expressing preference to Z, while he was doing Y for years before. And the words you used were "that coming from an atheist", which made me think you didn't expect something like that from one of those.
I'm still curious to know why were you feeling you should point out he was an atheist. Did you have different expectations because of that, or what?
And the reason I'm asking is to see whether you ate the proverbial bait, hook and line and bought the whole propagandistic mantra about unbelievers being generally lacking in the department of morality, humaneness et al.
>Wishing you a peaceful, moral Christmas ;-) and a Happy New Year,
Thanks for the latter - you too :).
As for Christmas... don't bother. I'll probably spend it working, safely insulated from the whole atmospheric disturbance (which it, from my POV, is).
Since you'll be absent for a while, we may reanimate this conversation next year :)
