The issue I have is trying to determine how to front-end the SQL Server database to allow users to have the best experience getting and managing their data. Knowing that VFP is the fastest and best desktop database there is, bar none, is the reason for looking at VFP as a potential front-end.

The SQL tuning, analyzing execution plans, setting up appropriate indexing, are all tasks that need to be addressed.

I guess the real issue is looking to educate the users into thinking about their data as a 'set of records' versus a single record, and changing business practices and processes to encourage that. As analysts, they need to be looking at the big picture anyway.
