No apology necessary - it was a serious question with rhetorical overtones.
I had gotten 'through' the save by coding 0 in the first element and the #of elements, but felt that that wasn't correct. I'm happy that someone knows that the proper thing to code is -1, and will change the code accordingly.
The "Help" (in quotes here for obvious reasons) states "If you omit..." several times. It does mention coding -1, but solely in the context of VFP6.

>Jim, I can not answer your question, but I can guess that the problem with ASCAN is that you want to omit one parameter, and VFP passes it as .F., giving you an error. I think you can pass -1 to the parameter you want to omit, and I think that would solve your problem, if you had one and it was not just a rethorical example, in which case I appologize.
