>My general procedure so far is running CCleaner, Kazaabegone, CWShredder, HijackThis, Spybot, AdAware, and then installing and configuring SpySweeper, which has a great Malware shield. After that, I make sure to run Windows Updates, MSconfig, a virus scan. I also do these steps on every username on the PC. I also try to do most of this in Safe Mode. If I find intances of pain-in-the-rear malware such as bonzai or bargain buddy, I usually google up a removal procedure.

That's a pretty thorough list. One I'd add would be BHODaemon, ( http://www.spychecker.com/program/bhodaemon.html ) which can help manage so-called "Browser Helper Objects" which load when you start IE. Useful for managing those nasty cases where your machine looks and starts clean, but as soon as you start IE you get infected all over again.
