Thanks for that information. I see I have to think a little more before running any test to discover/confirm something! I ran with shared and indeed the memo file does get re-written!

The question has already been asked as to why. I do want to note that this, of course, slows things down very much. I'd say it might also be a contributor to 'memo file corrupted' that seems to show up more frequently than other corruptions.

>Are you sure a new area wasn't allocated? Even if new data fit into existing allocated area, it doesn't mean that area will be reused. VFP always allocates new area for files opened in shared mode or when buffering is in effect.
