Thanks. As you can see, I'd already translated it as "of the" - that's what confused me. Francois' transaltion (under) didn't say "I have had to stop" or "I had to stop", but said "I have stopped" so I can be forgiven for not understanding. On the other hand, I didn't know that "du" was the past participle of devoir (which would have been enough as I know "devoir").

Out of interest, do you know the difference between "I have had to stop" and "I had to stop"? I think F said the latter in French.
