It may be that your printer does not support DOS printing. I could not find the printer on the Canon site to check its specifications. Check DOS printing capability as follows:
1. Create a text file using NotePad (e.g. TEXT.TXT)
2. In a CMD window, type in

  COPY TEXT.TXT LPT1

3. If a printer light comes on but nothing prints, you may have to press a "continue" button, or exit the CMD window to release the print job
If the above test won't print, the printer may be a so-called GDI printer which requires a Windows driver to render the print jobs and which doesn't support DOS.

UPDATE: it looks like your printer is a GDI printer so you might be out of luck:
