Aw c'mon Craig - if you KNOW something, say so!. . . saying you don't want to start one of those VFP is dead threads sounds like you know about the eventual disposition of VFP and that it is slated to "die" (possibly in that it will become something else).

You give the appearance of being a very patient person when it comes to MS and also of being one who trust MS implicitly. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but some of us operate on the basis that we gotta tell them what we need so they have a chance to deliver it. Trusting that they can read our minds just ain't in our mindsets. Leaving it for "them" to deliver a spiffy product that suits their needs and wishes alone is insufficient - their needs and wishes could be very different than "ours".

While I'm comfortable that VFP has many years ahead of it yet (even if MS were to fold it tomorrow), I'm not at all comfortable with this declared "policy" that 'all development products are to be merged". I personally feel that's a DREAM WORLD not based in reality. I can't tell you how often good ol IBM tried similar "dreams" in the mainframe world over the years, each time never realizing its goal. OS/2 in PCs is only thier latest attempt. Things like this sound so good, and look so good on paper, but have real problems when trying to actually move along the path. We would all be far better off is MS would just give up on this screwy idea and get back to writing full, complete, comprehensive, working well-documented products.

Cheers,

Jim N

>>Yeah, but the big question is if this merger is going to include VFP. So far its tools remain entirely different from the rest of Visual Studio - and IMO, in most cases better - and the VFP IDE remains very different from the rest of the tools.

>How long did it take for Office to become integrated? Microsoft is still talking about more shared components in Office 8.0. It will take some time, but the components will merge. As for how long VFP will be there, I'd rather discuss that topic off line....I don't want to start any more of those VFP is dead threads. I'll track you down next week at DevCon.
