I always thought that what differentiates an amateur from a professional would be the following. Somebody that builds an app. with the proper development tool.

The professional should care for the customer's needs. Not build something only just thinking that it'll be better for his career.

For sure building a full blown .Net app on the web with SQL Server will be better for YOU. But do you really think that it'll fit the needs of a customer that asked for a simple app.? Are you familiar with the work overkill?
