>>>>>When I've visited Canada in the past, on my return to UK I've been able to claim back any GST or provincial taxes that I've paid on any service or purchase (incl. e.g. whale watching trip). It's like Canadians can claim back any VAT they've paid while visiting UK. Might this not be a similar case whereby non-Cans can claim back this "VAT"?

>>>You claim back in your home country, via a form you get from the Social Security, or some central govt. office - I can't remember which.

>>Oh, come on! Do you really believe that? That would imply that the (in my case) Dutch government would ask the money back from Canada? Forget it! There's no such procedure.

>Not a case of belief. I've done it twice, and my Canadian visitors to UK have done it back in Canada. In UK the agency is, can't quite remember, but "up north", in Newcastle or thereabouts. So yeah, somewhere along the line a govt. may be claiming back off the other.

>Anyway, I know you like a good argument, Peter, but I'm not getting into one. I put this forward as you asked for contribution to your thread, thinking someone else may know more about this or whether it's applicable to the tax on UT membership.

FYI. I saw on the this mornings news, that here in America we can deduct taxes paid in other countries. And other local taxes too. I guess they feel it does not make sence to paid taxes twice.

My 2 cents (I hope it not taxable)
