I think you confuse the beliefs of various nutty authors, who I am sure the libertarian party is full of, with the overall philosophy.

No, I am not confused. These beliefs have been advocated by party members. What you are missing is that the party eschews the very concept of philosophy, ethics, rules, and morality. Their very underpinnings are anarchism.

I've kept up with their party since 1984, I've attended a few of their functions, and I've known individuals who worked for the party. When I state something, it is because I know the facts.

Your view of the role of government is what I think of when I hear the term libertarian, or when I read any of their official website materials.

You need to go far beyond the surface before you can start throwing out phrases like "confused" and "wrong".

I would guess you are wrong about the beliefs you claim most libertarians have and they are closer to your own than you think, but that aside what should we call this philosophy of government role you support?

I've given you several pieces of information, which apparently you've chosen not to follow up on. Fine, no sense continuing.

Read the works of Ayn Rand, Peter Schwartz, Leonard Peikoff, and Ludwig von Mises. The name of the philosophy is Objectivism.
