I haven't seen a 3 to 1 ratio. I think it's been far less. Just from personal experience, there are recruiters swarming all around the dotnet user group in LA every month due to shortage of applicants. I was down in San Diego last weekend for codecamp. One of the organizers said the recruiters show up for the SD user group meetings also.

Someone in the Java camp started an uproar several months ago by writing an article that Java was entering maintenance mode. His statistics showed dotnet used at least twice as much on the desktop as Java, and growing. And Lamp (Linux, apache, mysql, php) gaining on Java on the web.

My experience shows that dotnet is lightyears ahead of Java on the desktop. I am curious though that in the stats I read, Asp.net wasn't even mentioned as a web alternative. But when talking to folks in SD, there are plenty of folks doing lots of asp.net work.

>I have read several of the threads recently on VFP vs .net. And of course it is easy to see which side people take. But I continue to wonder why does it always comes down to VFP or .Net! When I check monster.com and other job sites I see that companies want Java programmers. Almost 3 to 1 over .Net! (I'm in Calif) I continue to see Linux gaining on MS. I see how excited others (not me) get about Ajax and Ruby on Rails.
