>>No, in fact i don't even know where/if in my town there is a snooker hall. I used to play, back in the day, but I was never any better than the next Joe. I also used to play pool, but I can't abide the "winner-stays-on" mentality of most places, where the ne'er-do-well regular user gets free goes at other peop;le's expense. As I said, I like the TV world champ tournament and it just occured to me while watching that there was no US snooker connection.

>"safe shot"... is that like a "laying up" in golf?

I don't know what laying up is. As the object of golf is to get the ball into the hole in the fewest strokes I doubt if it's the same concept. The idea is, if you can't get a decent shot at pocketing the ball, you leave the shot with no prospective object balls easy to pot, preferably with the cue ball hard up against the cushion, or better still, having snookered you oponent in so doing. Sometimes these "duels" can go on for ages. One match the other night had them spend some 20 mins over the yellow ball (once all the reds are pocketed the other colours have to be potted in sequence).

Though I have seen golfers jokingly putt the ball, holding their golf bat like a pool cue :-)
- Whoever said that women are the weaker sex never tried to wrest the bedclothes off one in the middle of the night
- Worry is the interest you pay, in advance, for a loan that you may never need to take out.
