>>>>>>I burned a CD months ago on another box. When I put it in my laptop drive, it doesn't show that any files are there, but the CD picture (properties) shows that it is completely filled. Hard to tell by physically looking at it if anything was actually written to it, but I'm pretty sure there was. Thanks!

>>>>>>UPDATE: Weird, but I opened it in Roxio and it shows the ZIP files on the CD, but when I try to append 1 file to the CD, it errors out. I thought that might be a way to get Windows to recognize it, but no.

>>>If your RW CD isn't finalized you can only read it with a drive that is burner. Lots of drives on laptops aren't. Try it on a burner.

>>Bingo! Took it to the desktop and they are accessible. Thanks!

>The issue is likely that you don't have the appropriate "packet-writing" software installed on your laptop. If you install the Roxio packet-writing component on the laptop you should be able to read the CD, even if the laptop CD drive is not a burner.

>BTW after having a number of issues with Roxio I've switched to Nero and never had any problems, burning CDs or DVDs. Highly recommended.

I wish there was some sort of great and free cd/dvd burning software. It seems like when you buy a burner, you get some trimmed down version of Roxio or Nero that does what you need it to do, but it would be nice to have a good suite available.
Very fitting: http://xkcd.com/386/
