Interestingly (and scary when you think about it), I read a study recently that showed that the majority of hispanics when illegally here are Democrats (in their thinking) and then when they become citizens they switch to Republicans. I've actually spoken with a few friends of mine who made such a switch and surprisingly, many (most that I know actually) once they are legally here want the flow to stop and don't want their ex-countryman to come here illegally. They even become very Republican and rightwing in their views outside of the immigration issue as well. Go figure. Only time will tell.

In the whole US, the Hispanic population is expected to form the largest demographic group within our lifetimes. I wonder what these people will think of the rest of the population, which by then will be largely elderly. Perhaps they'll assert that all these retirees should have provided for themselves better rather than expecting the taxpayer and other healthcare insurance-holders to prop them up. Perhaps such decisions are being formed in the young minds of the kids we're talking about today.
