>Interesting that on the tape they sound the phrase "would like" almost the same for "I would like" and "You would like".. (voudrais) But in the google translate they have a different word for "you would like", voulez. Who is right?

Think of it as the difference in English between "Do you want to " and "Would you like to "

>>>I started recently listening to Pimsleur Basic French tapes. They sound very good but there is no book that accompanies the course. The idea is to learn simply by listening. But I would like to see the words in writing as, I think, it will help me to memorize the new words better. So I was wondering if someone can suggest a good on-line (free) translator where I can type a simple phrase in English to see the French tranlsation. For example, right now I would like to see how the phrase "I would like to eat something" and "I would like to drink something" look in French.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
