gun-related crime is right up there with the U.S. (see the graph in my link to Tracy.....)>
>Those "Gun Facts" people are being a bit naughty. ;-) Swiss figures for "Intentional firearm deaths" include quite a high firearm suicide rate- not because firearms cause suicides but because there's an available firearm in practically every home. If you look at "murder" figures, which is the more useful stat, it's a different story:
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir_percap-crime-murders-firearms-per-capita . Switzerland has three times the rate of New Zealand which also has fairly liberal gun laws, but less than a quarter of the US rate.
You could be right. OTOH I'm not sure what 'murder' means in the context of that link. I'd assume that for it to be 'murder' someone must have been caught and convicted - otherwise it should be defined as 'killing' rather than murder. So the figure may say more about the detection and conviction rate than about the number of killings. Then, at the bottom of this list, it states that this is the 'total recorded intentional homicides' - still another definition since homicide is often not illegal.
Just nitpicking really,
