John,

Dabo's use of wxPython has been an issue for me.

- Same here. Personally, I would like for it to be 'based' on PyGTK, primarily because of Gnome (I like it). Plus the fact that Qt is not totally free if you use it for commercial purposes.

Others will tell you that the desktop is dead - I couldn't disagree more.

- Same here! I mean, there are things which are better served as a desktop app.

How's your learning curve on Dabo? Any links, books, videos on Dabo you can point me to? So far, everything I got about it is in its website. =)

So far, I have just began dipping my fingers in it. And yes, it seems to be reincarnation of VFP. And for this, I love it. Plus throw in its capability for server side web capabilities.

I have, for a few months, been googling up a lot of materials to decide on which direction to take (as a fallback in case our dear VFP really gets buried six deep - hope not). I chose Python over the rest because of its 'close VFP resemblance'. Then, it was now about choosing the IDE and GUI toolkit to use : Boa Constructor (wxPython), PIDA (pyGTK), SPE (wxPython), PyDev, WingIDE, Eric (pyQt) etc...

When I chanced upon a Youtube video showing a PyCon demo of Dabo by Ed Leafe and Paul McNett, and finding out that they were VFP guys, the connection was made.

Dennis
