While your points are good, I am not sure how you plan to avoid forever the demand for web/cloud apps. Web apps are crazy to program in how different it is from the desktop, but I am not sure what you mean by "trust."

I am not looking for truly long term solutions, more like 5-10 year solutions. The issue of niche is important. VFP was once mainstream, so for VFP it is not such an issue. But if platform ABC goes under . . . . never happen with HTML and Javascript in the next decade. Why wrk with something that may or may not be here in 5 years? Silverlight, anybody?

>>I have to chime in and ask the obvious question: why go from one niche product, VFP, to another niche product? What would you gain spending the time and money to rewrite an app in Lianja/alpha5/etc? If it is an existing app, use WC or FoxinCloud to convert to HTML/Javascript. That is the only universal platform really.
>>
>>Down the road there will have to be, someday, a reasonable VFP successor or alternative. But for existing apps, HTML.

>I have no intention of rewriting everything. Will however try to do small pilot app as to explore whole concept.
>As far as I understood, Lianja will support x-base code so we are not talking about full rewrites anyway (actually trying to avoid them as it would be case with NET road) but more like adopting code. Personally, I really dislike web apps and would not trust web app to run anything but simple web content showings, which we do very easily with Joomla. (Few weeks max per website)

>What I am interested to see in action is Lianja's database (Recital) which I gather can be manipulated/programmed using x-base language. That would be my dream come true :) Long time ago I (naively) hoped that some future version of VFP will include directly
>opening and using MS-SQL database tables just like we do with VFP native tables. It would have been kind of logical path for
>after let say VFP5 but then we all know what happened. So If Lianja can come anywhere close in fulfilling that dream I am definitely interested in it.

>As for mainstream vs niche... Don't get me even started.
>Some time ago VFP was mainstream as well. The way M$ simply disregarded many millions of VFP application users, so I really wander what is the advantage of going 'mainstream'.
>
>Niche or Mainstream, there is no guarantee for longevity not so ever, so what a heck.
