Huh? OS upgrades and Windows upgrades have funded Microsoft for 15 or 20 years now. For a guy who talks like he sits across a desk from Steve Ballmer you sound surprisingly clueless sometimes.
>I think Microsoft realizes that OS upgrades pretty much don't happen. Consumers don't do it. Enterprises don't do it. Typically, it comes with a new PC purchase rather than an OS upgrade.

>>As always, good advice from Hank. But this speaks directly to the point : the most compelling reason to use Windows 8 is a retooled kernal and better performance. Metro is a failure and shows that they can take some really good technology and be clueless about how to market it or make a case for its adoption. Whoever told them people wanted their desktop to look like their phone was probably an agent provocateur from Apple or Google :-)

>>And it is not a motivation for people to go out and buy a new PC to get Win 8 or even pony up $100 to install Win 8 so they can make it work like Win 7.
