>OK. I was looking at Penn State overall where room and board is at least $4K per semester. At Shippensburg it says $11,160 annually for room and board plus about $3K expenses. Cost of attendance is $9700 annually but that's full time: if you take twice as long to get the degree, I expect you could halve that. IOW maybe $18K per year part time if you include room and board? Taking Dorris's calculation: not affordable even if you work "part time" 40 hours per week to yield $12,064.

>In fairness, that's before you apply for assistance or take out a loan. 98% of Shippensburg attendees now receive financial aid, and 81% take out loans that average $29,437.

I'm not going to argue with you or Doris. You both argue for arguments sake. I paid for my undergrad, and graduate degrees while in the military. Was it tough? Yes. Did it take a sacrifice, yes. For my years in the military from 1970 - 1988, my highest paid year was 24,000. But because I struggled, sacrificed, spent days without sleep, I know live in relative luxury ( way beneath what you would consider luxury), but I'm fine. I have a great job (6 figures) and have no bills, because that was how I was raised. But I'm in the highest part of SSN payin over the last 15 years, so I should max out.

I don't give a hoot what you think about it or what Doris has to say. Unless you have done it, you can't say squat about what others have gone through or experienced. It is endemic today for people to feel disenfranchised by whatever odds the feel, where in the truth is, get off your ass and make it happen. That is anathema to the liberals who want to make sure the field is level for everyone and no one has to exert themselves.

Have fun....
