If I understand you correctly, the RecordSource of the combo is vendor_cat and you want to synch it with the current record in Vendor.

So, set the ControlSource for the combo to the appropriate field in Vendor, and refresh the combo when the record pointer moves.

If that's not what you meant, please explain some more.
