Thanks for the vote! I'm upgrading a DOS program to VFP, and when asked what they wanted changed we expected "Ability to mouse to any field" or "Multiple screens open". Instead 3 users said "Get rid of those awful blinking 'NOTES' signs". Now they have a small gray button that changes from 'notes' to '
NOTES' when a memo exists. Click and a memo-edit form pops up.
I did an "Awful UI" form once for a class which had timers blinking items at different rates, as well as 15 different colors and 6 fonts. Fun to do....

must blink something -- blink the background, not the foreground. Most users find this less obtrusive. I usually just toggle between an opaque and transparent background style. This is enough "movement" to alert the uer without driving him/her nuts.
