I don't know about the real amount of memory used, but I'm pretty sure that VFP doesn't load up all the runtime in memory on startup. It load only what is necessary and read the file as necessary.
From what I've heard, VB as a lighter memory footprint than VFP and is generally faster in displaying forms.
