It's the only one that makes it feasible to let Michel continue to modify the code. He has to make a living, and UT has to pay for any enhancements to the code base, or he's got to find other work to pay his personal bills. And unless Michel is fabulously wealthy and willing to bleed away his personal funds, if UT ends up taking food out of his mouth, I'm afraid that we'd have to find somewhere other than UT to go.

If you're implying that responding to messages and putting up files should be more than adequate compensation, realize, Michel can't live on electrons. And there are plenty of people who are at least as active on the UT as yourself that feel that there's a need to contribute towards keeping UT up and running.
