>Using NAV? The best thing I did was uninstall that sucker. I was trying to apply some updates to IE5 and it would always fail until I disabled NAV. I finally just uninstalled it until I was through installing everything [I had to reformat, reinstall Win98 SE, etc.]. Its been a helluva 2 days. Our System Admins also got a Win98 SE patch for the shutdown problem we had been having as well. It's in e-mail to you.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot...yes, I've reinstalled SE twice already too, kind of wishing I'd never upgraded about now :)

Also, I'm now using NAV, but only installed after the problem existed...however, I was using McAfee (until RAS license expired), which has also caused assorted problems at work, especially on servers - really big problems lately on our servers, in fact. They issued a bad DAT update recently, caused many problems, we had to quickly uninstall it all over the agency. I guess any AVs can cause problems - so, maybe that had a negative effect during some install here on my home machine, also...

I'll try disabling the NAV for a while, at least when I'm off-line, and see if that helps.

Systemworks has some good features, but what is really bogus is that Norton Crash Guard. It has not only *not* stopped any app crashes, I think it actually causes the entire OS to crash...I've disabled that sucker :)
