Just thinking aloud here, but I wonder if you could run the COM object in unattended mode, using = SYS(2335,0). Then a MESSAGEBOX, if indeed it is a VFP call, would trigger an Error #2031, which is trappable in your error handler. Perhaps a RETURN in that case would ignore the error and the message bix would not get displayed. I have not tried this, but it seems like a possibility.
