Found out later that the primary reason why he made the request was that I didn't dress 'feminine' enough for him and he thought I was gay and that made him just too uncomfortable. Oh well, his loss.
In Massachusetts in the late 60's (mini dress era) I got called on the carpet because my skirts were too short, and then nearly fired because I changed into a pants suit AFTER 5pm to drive 30 miles in a snowstorm. One of my neighbors threatened to sue her daughter's school, because they wouldn't let the little girl were ski-pants to school in sub-zero weather.
Unreal from today's point of view.
