I use Win98 on my own machine. I have an old Win95 that I don't use. I thought about giving that to my sister, but I like to keep it around just in case. I don't think that would be illegal since I don't use it any more. It is a legal original Win95 and so is my Win98 version that I use currently.

I still think I am going to call Compaq or e-mail them again and complain. The QuickRestore that they sent me is restricted to this single machine because I had to give them the Serial Number of the Compaq machine in order to get them to approve my purchase of QuickRestore software.

You know how it is when you buy a used PC. So many users loose their docs and disks over time. I don't, but many people do. Even at work we are always looking for missing docs and disks because everyone is so disorganized, except for me.

The bottomline is I won't do anything illegal and if it means a wasted dead PC, than so be it, but that sounds like a last resort. I know Microsoft monitors this site and perhaps someone from MS could give me some guidance or direction on this matter since Compaq is becoming like Wang used to be in the old days.

Take care. Thanks for the suggestions. I might do just what you suggested.
