I had to do the same thing - I left two rows in the detail band and created 15 group bands, one row each, grouped on empno since each detail was a detail of one employee. It doesn't seems to have affected the speed that the report gets processed.

It seems strange that we need to do this to get rid of that space.

Do you think its ok to process a report this way?
