>Since my name, and the tool I wrote are being mentioned, I hope you don't mind my jumping in.
You are always welcome George:)
In fact I wish more folks would jump into threads. Reticence about these things is supposed only something us Brits have:)
I tend to avoid asking the authors of tools directly to try and share the support burden out and just hope they might spot it<g>.
Yes the idea of doing this in the background, or even in a minimised window seems slim:(
I am starting to cool on the idea a bit because it looks like a lot of work trying to do it.
One area that may help but I have not been able to chase up, is the Report to Web article in Fox Talk. I dont have a subscription to that mag.
BTW your tool is ideal for some other stuff I am doing, Thanks!

>You're right about the object being visible. The object must be visible on the screen. The application does a bit-block transfer of screen memory. If, for example, another object partially obscures the one you're interested in, then you'll get a portion of it. IOW, it must be completely visible. The way the application works is to bring the form containing the object to the top of the Z-order.

>Please remember that I wrote this as a developers' tool for producing graphical help files. Can it be used for other purposes, such as grabbing a screen shot of the current form? Absolutely! In fact, I know of some folk who have done just that. I think what you're looking for is far beyond the meager capacities of the tool, however.
