Mike,

>Thanks for following up on this, Walter.

You're welcome

>This was directly in response to a claim that a developer finds VFP bugs almost every day. Steve did not say that there were no bugs in VFP, no one else said this either. That would be awfully hard to back up.

Steven said,

Me too. My mean time between VFP errors is measured in weeks, if not months. Not to say problems don't exist, but the combination of good hardware, good OS (NT 4+latest SP or Win 2K), and not trusting most ActiveX controls from any source means virtually zero problems.

Well, I've got a well defined AMD 750 Win2K with all certified drivers loaded, and I'm confronted with VFPs bug almost every day. In one class (without activeX controls) I've written, when I try to save changes VFP exits without warning or errors, but saves the changes though. Happens to me each time I work with the class. I tried everythin including a redesign of the class, nothing helps.

Another that seems to be present since VFP 5 and experienced on more than three different machines under three OSs is that when I change a rowsource of a combobox in development time with the Zoom dialog box, it frequently errors me with a C0000005.

Ever put two comboboxes reported filled with addlistitem and a timer on a form, setting the timer event to some low value and watch VFP taking all CPU resources ? Just remove one combobox and the problem disappears. This one I reported to Randy Brown Thread #462486 Message #462828. Never got any reply of any kind on this bugreport. And guess what, though its perfectly reproducable, and reported in a reaction of the question for bugreports, it still exists in VFP 7 today !! THIS STINKS !!!

I've already send a dozen bugreport via the automated bugreport facility towards Microsoft, right after it crashed for some reason, but I really wonder if this is going to help much, I don't have many good experiences when it comes to bugreporting.

It clear I don't share steve's observation, and certainly don't agree with the conclusion that good soft- and hardware means virtually no problems. Maybe I read something in the message that is not there, but I do get the feeling "I do not experience any suffering from bugs, so neither should" attitude here.

>"I encourage everyone to stop reporting their bugs to the MS VFP Team until the MS VFP Team agrees to provide some form of feedback on bugs ALL reported."

I don't agree to this statement, but this does not mean I do not support Jims standpoint that MS should improve their bugreporting facility.

>Ironically, anyone that disagreed with this extremist position got lableled a "vocal egotistical asshole".

Well, I don't recall that I have read that into the message. I do recall that this was said about a certain group of people who tend to 'defend' MSs standpoint in a variaty of discussions about MS issues, or state that since they don't have such problem in their programs you should not have either when you adopt their strategy. Indeed I do reconize the message in this statement, since more than once I've though a battle to convince such people that their standpoint is their standpoint, but other standpoints may be equally or even more valid than theirs.

I've learned a lot in my discussions about the deleted tag raised about three years ago now (I'm not certain you were here already). In two threads I tried to convince half a dozen MVPs that deleted tags in general do more harm than they do good. One of them even said something in the line of: "How do you dare trowing such numbers to me, do you know who I am ?"

Maybe its because as an european i've got another cultural background, but IMO there certainly are people arround here that have a slight egocentric attitude with a MVP title here, (not you mike ;-)).

Walter,
