Walter,

>Ever put two comboboxes reported filled with addlistitem and a timer on a form, setting the timer event to some low value and watch VFP taking all CPU resources ? Just remove one combobox and the problem disappears. This one I reported to Randy Brown Thread #462486 Message #462828. Never got any reply of any kind on this bugreport. And guess what, though its perfectly reproducable, and reported in a reaction of the question for bugreports, it still exists in VFP 7 today !! THIS STINKS !!!

I've stayed out of this rats nest of name calling and finger pointing for several days now, but I'll use this example above as an entry point.

Bug reports by every vendor are rated by at least two criteria 1) severity (does it cause crashes or data loss) and 2) frequency - how many people have run into it. Your above bug is probably pretty low on both of those measures. Sure it adversely affects your one form, but there are trival workarounds so you shouldn't feel so mad (requoting your text: !! THIS STINKS !!!) that this bug has not been fixed yet.

I'm not being a MS synchophant, as I have been called in messages here in the UT, I'm just trying to add a bit of reality to the bug resolution discussion. Not every bug is as earth shattering to the rest of the world as it is to the ones of us that run into any given bug.

No vendor, in a free market economy, is going to ever publish a full list of bugs. I don't care how many developers get up in arms and yell about it. Competitors would use it to do far worse damage to a company, than developers would use it to avoid hitting bugs. I've seen Ashton-Tate, Borland and MS all avoid ever publishing a comprehensive bug list.

Does VOF Tax Software publish a full disclosure of the bugs that are in its software? When someone reports a bug to VOF which ones get solved first? These are rhetorical questions.

Bottom line on the whole issue, and others have already stated the same thing. If you find a bug, report it to MS if nothing else is accomplished it'll raise the count on the frequency criteria which will increase the probability that it will be fixed in a subsequent release.
