Doug,
Not wanting to jump into a hornet's nest, but...
Christianity has been dominant in the UK for well over 900 years, in the U.S. for approximately 500 years and in Canada for approx. 500 years.
Women gained the right to vote in approx. 1920 in the UK, 1920 in the U.S. and 1919 in Canada. It was only 1940 when women gained the right in Quebec provincial elections, yet Quebec was the most religious (Catholic) by far of any North American entity!
If Christianity be the cause of the "achievement" then it does move mighty slowly.
In addition, I am not aware that women play a subservient role in China, they surely didn't in post-czarist Russia/USSR and they don't in Israel, none of which were/are Christian. I don't know alot about India or Pakistan or Sri-Lanka (Ceylon) or Turkey but I do know that each has had a woman leader (Prime Ministers all, I believe) while the Christian U.S. has never even had a woman Vice President.
Finally, I believe that I've read often that a majority of the indigenous people of all continents - heathens all - were organized in tribes with a matriarchal power structure.
I'm afraid this is another of those arguments that can be made to "fit" whichever side one wishes.
cheers
